It saddens me to write this because Papa’s death took me by surprise. He’s one of the closest uncles I’ve ever had and was like a father to me.

For as long as I can remember, Uncle Demola or Papa as he was fondly called was one of those family members who was ever present. From when we were very young, he took all of us as his children and was always concerned about our welfare. “What are you up to now?”, “Come see me let’s talk”; these were words I heard often as I became an adult.

I tried to count all the times Papa had done one good thing or the other for me, I quickly lost count. He would do anything within his power for his family; that’s just the way he was.

Growing up and even after death, I have heard stories in different parts of the country, of his remarkable kindness and friendship. It’s one thing to experience the kindness of a relation first hand, it’s another thing to hear stories of his kindness outside. It’s a testimony to the kind of person he was; a person who inspired the people around him and enriched the quality of their lives.

He was a brave and intelligent man who cared deeply for those around him. As a young politician he cared deeply about the “Area Boys” in Lagos and as the Local Government Chairman, he saw to it that they were gainfully employed and had a chance at a better life. He loved the people and they could see it too.

I would have loved to see him live much longer, but the almighty God is sovereign and he is in control of all our lives.

Thank you sir for all your love and affection. Thank your for the countless times you stood by us. Thank you for the words of wisdom. Thank you for your example.
Rest In Peace Papa
